What is the difference between Home Care & Home Health Care?
Compassion Home Care offers non-medical home care services. We assist seniors and individuals with disabilities or illnesses with their activities of daily living (ADLs), which include bathing, grooming, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, transportation, and ambulation. Home health care agencies provide medical and clinical care, such as skilled nursing, therapy, medication administration, and wound care. Compassion Home Care does NOT provide home health care services.
What is your service area?
Our administrative office is in Lincolnwood, IL; however, our home care services are available throughout all counties in the greater Chicagoland area. The counties we serve include Cook, Lake, McHenry, Kane, Will, and DuPage. If you require services outside of these areas, please contact us for more information.
Do you provide service at nursing homes or assisted living facilities?
Yes. We can provide you with your own personal, private-duty caregiver in assisted living and nursing home facilities.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, we are a licensed provider of private-duty home care. Our license number from the Illinois Department of Public Health is #3001266. Employees of Compassion Home Care are fully covered by our liability, workers’ compensation & unemployment insurance as required by the state of Illinois.
Do you perform background checks on employees?
Yes. To ensure the safety and well-being of our clients, all employees undergo a comprehensive background check performed via the Illinois State Police, which includes fingerprinting. Additionally, employees must not have any disqualifying criminal convictions listed in the Illinois Health Care Worker Registry. We also conduct federal-level background checks. These databases are monitored in real-time so that our agency receives immediate notifications if any employee triggers a disqualifying event. As an extra precaution, Compassion Home Care performs an annual clearance check on all active employees.
Will I have a choice of which caregiver comes to my home?
Yes. Based on your personalized Care Assessment, we will match you with caregivers whom we believe will best meet your needs. You will have the opportunity to meet with them beforehand to determine if they are a good fit for you. To ensure your satisfaction, we offer a Caregiver Compatibility Guarantee.
Will I always receive care from the same caregiver?
This depends on your caregiver’s schedule. We understand that most people prefer to see the same friendly and familiar face regularly. However, caregivers also need personal time. We will do our best to honor your existing caregiver relationships and accommodate your requests, but please understand that there may be times when a relief caregiver is assigned. Rest assured, we will do our best to ensure you, and your family feel comfortable and happy!
Can I change or discontinue the services my loved one receives?
Yes, you can. However, you must notify Compassion Home Care at least 72 hours in advance of any regularly scheduled shift. Please call (773) 599-9174 and make arrangements with one of our Care Managers. If you inform us of rescheduling, cancellation, or discontinuation less than 72 hours before the start of a scheduled shift, all regularly scheduled service fees may apply. We understand that caregiving situations can change quickly, so we strive to be as flexible as possible in accommodating your loved one’s needs. Please contact us as soon as possible to address any last-minute schedule changes.
Do I need a physician’s authorization for your services?
No. You do not need a physician’s authorization to use our home care services. There are no requirements for pre-authorization, pre-qualification, certification, or prescription. You have the power to select the specific services that best meet your needs, decide when to begin those services, and determine how frequently you wish to utilize them. Your journey to personalized care starts with you.
Will my insurance provider or Medicaid/Medicare cover the cost of my care?
If you have Long-Term Care Insurance, your insurer may cover some of the services you receive. It is your responsibility to contact your insurance provider to confirm whether they will pay for non-medical home care services. In this case, you will need to pay Compassion Home Care directly when you receive an invoice for services, and your Long-Term Care insurance provider will reimburse you for that payment. In most cases, we can submit the necessary invoices, home care service notes, and claims to your insurance provider on your behalf. Please note that Compassion Home Care does not accept Medicare or Medicaid at this time.
What are the costs of your Home Care services?
The cost of our home care services varies based on several factors, including the level of care you require and the total number of hours you need assistance. Additionally, your preferences for care delivery—whether it’s hourly, live-in, or respite care—will influence the pricing. Each client’s situation is unique, and the specific cost will be tailored to your individual needs as outlined in your Care Assessment and Plan of Care. The final cost of care will be determined during your in-person meeting with one of our experienced Care Managers, ensuring you receive the most suitable and compassionate care for your situation.
Should I pay my caregiver directly?
No. You should never pay your caregiver directly for any in-home care services. Caregivers are dedicated employees of Compassion Home Care. All payments for services are processed through Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions, using your preferred checking, savings, or *credit card account. Payments are to be made directly to the agency upon receipt of an invoice. If your caregiver ever approaches you with a request for direct payment, please take this matter seriously and contact agency management immediately. Direct payments to agency personnel are strictly prohibited. Your cooperation helps us uphold the integrity of our services and ensures a consistent standard of care.
How is the privacy of my personal information maintained?
We are legally required to protect the privacy of all information in our client records. For more details on how we may use and disclose protected health information, please refer to our “Notice of Privacy Practices & HIPAA.” Protected health information refers to any health-related data that can identify you, or for which there is a reasonable basis to believe that it could be used to identify you.
